We all think joining a gym and paying a monthly membership will entice us to get out there and actually go. While it's nice to have access to a fitness center, if you have access to equipment at work or in an apartment building, you may just be wasting your money. Before taking the plunge and committing to a membership, consider these questions.

"What are my reasons for joining?"
If you're interested in joining a gym for its aerobics or yoga classes, you'll first want to eliminate any fitness center that doesn't have a studio to satisfy what you're looking for. If you want to join in order to get a great personal trainer, think about looking at the trainers at each gym and consider speaking with them to see who fits your needs best. 

"What does social media say?"
This may be the one time you can rely on social media to learn more about a gym. People in the public are much more vocal about singing praises and voicing concerns on social media websites. Plus, you'll be able to get a wider range of opinions through social media than you would by asking a few of your friends who attend a facility or random individuals who work out at a specific gym. 

"Do they offer a trial?"
Some gyms will offer a 30-day free trial to allow you to try out the gym, a personal trainer and the classes they offer. Utilizing these trials will not only give you a free period to work  out in a fitness center but they'll also allow you to get a feel for what the gym has to offer before committing. 

"How close is the gym?"
You'll want to choose a gym that's either close to home or work so there's less of a chance you'll come up with an excuse to not work out. If you can go to a facility that's close to home, you'll have the opportunity to get up earlier and work out. And by choosing one that's on the way home from work, you can make a quick stop before heading home and getting comfortable. 

"What are the gym's hours?"
Before choosing a gym, make sure their hours fit your lifestyle. If you plan on working out on the weekends, make sure they're open. Some gyms close on the weekend and some are open 24 hours a day. Before you sign up for any memberships, know when you'll be able to access the facility.
