Survey: Americans are stressed out

A new survey shows that a large majority of Americans deal with stress at unhealthy levels.

An enlightening survey titled "Stress in America" recently conducted by the American Psychological Association showed that when it comes to the U.S., stress could be a major inhibiting factor in healthy living. While feeling a bit overwhelmed from time to time is a perfectly normal part of human function, the rates of stress in America are much higher than other developed countries.

According to the survey, a whopping 78 percent of Americans admitted that their stress has increased or stayed the same in the past five years. Since 2007, the organization has conducted this annual nationwide survey to better understand the markers for stress in the U.S. and the repercussions it can have on public health and well-being, including diet and exercise. The survey asked participants their current feelings in the past month and asked questions related to stress, starting with "how often have you …?"

A generational problem
All of these items were then measured on a 10-point scale. American adults ranked in a score of 5.1 on the stress scale, and alarmingly enough, American adolescents measured their stress levels at 5.8. This clearly demonstrates that the U.S. has a stress problem, and it is starting to get worse as a new generation enters the workforce. The good news is that the survey indicated that adults know that their stress levels are outside of the healthy range, and concluded that their scores should be around 3.9, so there is room for improvement.

Healthy ways to cope with stress
One of the best ways to make the most out of your garcinia cambogia extract and set a good example for teens is to find more balanced ways to deal with feeling overwhelmed. Remember: Stress is going to happen from time to time, but it is the way that you react to these irritants that's important.

The survey showed that more teenagers in the U.S. are turning to sedentary activities for stress management, such as watching TV for more than two hours per day, playing video games and surfing the Internet. Even worse, teens with a BMI of 25 and above had stress scores of 6.4 during the school year - so being overweight definitely has a connection with how stressed out you are.

While the TV, Internet and games aren't necessarily bad things, it is important that you show adolescents how exercise and eating well can turn things around for your weight loss plan as well as your stress levels. The survey indicated that 43 percent of adults who exercise to relieve stress have passed on fitness sessions due to feeling overwhelmed. It's time to change that, especially if you are trying to bolster the benefits of your mental health and green coffee diet.
