Stress-relieving foods

Oysters are a good stress-relieving food.
Oysters are a good stress-relieving food.

Stress can have a major impact on your health and well-being. Not only can it cause your weight loss plan to fall apart at the seams, but it can lead to a decreased mental state as well. Luckily for us, there are foods out there that can help us de-stress and return to a sense of calmness.

Foods that relieve stress
Asparagus is full of folate and can help you remain calm when stress pops up. You can broil and season them for a great taste or stem some in the microwave and add them to a salad or stir-fry.

One way to ward off stress is to consume avocados. This fruit is rich in glutathione, which blocks your intestines from absorbing certain fats that can lead to oxidative damage. There's also more folate in avocados than any other fruit. It's best to only eat a single serving but they can be used on salads or to replace mayonnaise.

Any kind of berry can help you avoid feeling stressed out, including blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. All of these have a high vitamin C content. One study showed that participants who consumed vitamin C before a math test had lower blood pressure as well as lower levels of cortisol. You can incorporate berries into your everyday diet by adding them to yogurt, salad or oatmeal.

Oranges are also full of vitamin C and they can be easily carried around with you during the day thanks to their tough, durable skin. If you aren't one for oranges, try clementines or tangelos.

Although they are something you'd normally see on a restaurant's menu, oysters can prevent stress due to their zinc levels. Six oysters is enough to help you stay calm in stressful situations and they're tasty with a squeeze of lemon, cocktail sauce or even horseradish.

Walnuts provide a number of health benefits including being a good resort for stress relief. The reason they're good to eat while you're feeling stressed out is because they contain alpha-linolenic acid an omega-3 fatty acid, and polyphenols that can prevent memory loss. These omega-3 fatty acids keep cortisol and adrenaline in line. If you really want to bring out their flavor, try toasting them for 10 minutes before adding them to a salad.

You can pair these stress-relieving foods with natural weight loss supplements such as garcinia cambogia or green coffee for accelerated results.
